Chlamydia Follow Up

Your health care provider may recommend some guidelines to help prevent contracting chlamydia or spreading the infection to others.

Reduce your risks of chlamydia by:

  • Abstaining from sex
  • Having a mutual monogamous relationship (having sex with only one uninfected partner)
  • Not using nonoxynol-9 ("N-9") spermicides to prevent chlamydia
  • Using latex condoms for vaginal and anal sex even before skin contact
  • Using a non-lubricated condom, household plastic wrap, or a dental dam during mouth-to-vulva/vagina, mouth to penis, or oral-anal contact
  • Getting tested regularly for STDs
