Yeast infections typically disappear with adequate self-care measures and medical treatment. If symptoms are unresponsive to these measures, your health care provider may want to examine you again to make sure you don t have a chronic or secondary infection.

If your yeast infection is healed, some tips your health care provider may give you to try to avoid another infection in the future include:

• Drinking cranberry juice.
• Eating yogurt for its lactobacillus cultures which can reduce recurrent infections.
• Wearing underwear and pantyhose with cotton crotches and loose fitting slacks to avoid constant and excessive moisture in the genital area.
• Changing out of wet bathing suits and exercise clothing as soon as possible.
• Washing undergarments and bathing suits before each use.
• Avoiding douche, scented tampons and pads, and baths and hot tubs.
